I was in the parking lot of a movie theater with a friend and saw an older couple park a Ford Focus hatchback in a spot, get out and go into the theater. Then a woman in a Chevy HHR pulled up and the Focus started to drift backwards out of the parking space and the wheels cut, making it turn in a large circle and drift into the HHR. I was screaming at the woman and trying to get out of my friend's Civic but too late - it brushed along the HHR's front bumper and kept drifting towards a Boxster when I finally got over to it and slowed it down. Meanwhile, a mall cop was sitting in his Escape just watching the whole thing unfold. A state trooper showed up and took the woman's report and I guess he stayed with the car until the owners came back.

Does no one put it in first or reverse after setting the brake? Is that not common?

I don't, I just make sure I set the e-brake. Only time I ever put it in gear is when on a hill, and then I also cut the wheels too

I was getting out of work one day and walking across the lot to my car. A black Suburban started to back out of a spot a half dozen cars away from mine...and then the passenger doors swung open and two 13 year old girls jumped out of the moving car. My reaction was "holy frick what are they doing?" thinking they were jumping out to get away from the driver or something. Nope, no driver. Car just rolled back and started down the middle of the aisle. Thankfully one of the doors caught a Toyota Tacoma and magically stopped the Suburban from disappearing. The girls had no idea what to do so I went over, tracked down the Tacoma owner, tracked down the girl's parents, told them what happened, looked over the damage and stuff and once they didn't need me they sent me on my way. The Tacoma owner only had a small dent (again, magically) so he looked at the woman, told her "Merry Christmas" and said that she didn't need to worry about his car. Her passenger door went fully the wrong direction though and wouldn't close so her issues were a little more pressing.

Not sure what happened...brake fail or stupid girls hit something, but if the door didn't catch the Tacoma that Suburban had a straight shot to a store front.

That is the horrid, horrid car that totalled my first g60 (yes, I know). The lady just had it donated to her from her church. If only the church would have donated her some driving lessons too. Thanks for opening old wounds! sob.

Just some additional info. I went back out about 45 minutes later for a smoke break and she had move the car back into place and set the brake, but this time left her doors unlocked. Not to mention she didn't even leave her insurance info on The trucks Window or anything.

Dick and mini are 2 words that should NEVER be used in the same sentence.

Ouch! I just thought it would make the Citation line a bit funnier. It's not that different from the Olds Omega I had long ago.

Cheer up! Here's something to make you happier (or sadder, depending how the hoonage hurts your brain)

I don't but there's no hills here.

The closest I've come to the car rolling away was when I backed into my driveway, then tried to get out without setting the parking brake. Needless to say that was dumb, and fortunately as soon as my foot left the footwell I realized what I was trying to do and grabbed the brake.

For some strange reason, my clutch makes strange sounds for a few miles when I leave the car in gear in cold or wet weather, so I just use the handbrake and cut the wheel unless I'm in an angled parking lot.
